Eyebrows. My clients and I talk about them ALL the time.
Many find theirs:
- Too much.
- Too light.
- Too long.
- Out of control.
- Or, worst of all…gone.
There is a saying “You want sisters, not twins” when it comes to your brows. My brows? Not even related. Thanks to the style of the 90’s, an unfortunate incident during a laser training(!) and age/hormones/thyroid issues my brows aren’t even distant cousins. While my right one is fine my left one seems to have migrated elsewhere, possibly my upper lip.
So last winter I went and had microblading done with the amazingly talented Cortney Floyd, aka “The Brow Babe” at Wild Ivy Salon in Jacksonville. Last week I went for a touch up and felt the need to share my results and my thoughts as I am constantly asked about the process and who to see. Happy to share my experience!
A quick primer: Microblading is a semi-permanent form of tattooing where instead of a traditional tattoo gun and depositing the ink deep into the skin, a pen with a sharp nib is used to create “hair strokes” in the skin and then the ink is worked in, wiped off and voila! New, “twin”, low maintenance brows. There is a little downtime afterwards and yes, it does hurt a bit (they numb you first) but results usually last 12-18 months. Click here to read a great article describing it all.
The result? I love mine. They make my makeup routine so easy-I don’t have to worry about them matching, rubbing off in the Florida heat or if I am in a rush with minimal time for makeup (usually the case) they are still “on”. My color held well-given the treatments I do and the products I use (Vitamin A) they did fade a bit but I still found them easy, more “twins” than “sisters” and loved how they looked.
Cortney is THE best around. She takes her time to discuss shape and color with you extensively, so you get exactly what you want. She also walks you through the healing process and what to expect and just as importantly, what to do to protect her work. She only does brows, not hair. Not skin. Nothing else and it shows. I saw her work on three clients and followed her on Instagram for a year before deciding to do this and I am so glad I did. To date, two of my clients have also seen her for brows and theirs look amazing as well. She even teaches other skincare professionals on this, which says a lot.
If you’d like to set an appointment with her, she can be reached at 904.535.2370 or message her through Instagram at www.instagram.com/thebrowbabe_. She tends to be booked a few months out so even if you're just thinking about, reach out now to get on her books.
And of course, if this is more of a commitment than you would like to make, there are other options! Tinting, shaping, and waxing can help, and I am always happy to help you figure out the best shape to fill in at home.
Remember, sisters-not twins!
